hi all,
truck is a 94 F150 2wd 300 I6. I have a recurring power steering gearbox leaking issue. the original box started leaking from the bottom seal, and I had it replaced along with the power steering pump. after literally a week, the steering box started leaking from the bottom seal (same as the original box). I got the box replaced, and a week later, it happened again. so I got the box replaced (at a different shop) about 3 weeks ago. all was fine and dandy until earlier this week, when IT STARTED LEAKING AGAIN!! from the bottom seal. Im at wits end, because Im tired of replacing parts every 3 weeks.
someone said to look for a crushed line, or see if there is a flow restrictor missing from the replacement box (which would cause too much pressure to enter the box, thus messing up the seal).
problem is fixed. turns out that when the work was done the first time, the 'mechanic" found a leak in one of the return lines and instead of replacing it, put a union in, but the I.D. of the union was smaller than that of the P/S line and built up too much pressure, thus blowing out the seals. freakin b-e-a-utiful huh?
