A Little Help Please!

I have an 04 F250 6.0l replaced all filters and oil about 700 miles ago, hauled a load of asphalt in the bed yesterday and after all was empty the truck is sputtering at idle and then around 40-45mph the engine shakes real bad. Have checked to see if any codes are there is none at all. Any suggestions would be very welcomed. Thanks guys!

When was EGR valve cleaned last?

Is there a big carbon build in the EGR plenum?

Clean the EGR valve, and if you suspect it (or have no way of testing it) toss in a new one.

Clean the plenum.

Reset computers

Be sure you get EGR relearn / and also do turbo relearn.

Be aware that you may have loose carbon from that operation causing severe problems.

Once you are done cleaning -- Italian tuneup.

If you suddenly have zero power (5mph), pull over, neutral, rev to 3,000 rpm a few times, it will clear it.

If not, repeat.

With the key off you can unplug the egr valve connector which should leave it in the closed position (if it's not to curded up
). This will throw a cel but hopefully the symptoms you are describing will go away. That may help narrow things down.

How did you read the codes...ya gotta have the correct code reader for the 6.0. Also may be a bad U-joint and makes it feel like the engine.

BTW, in a 2004, you prob will NOT get a code for unplugging the EGR valve. Only 2005 and newer.

Do as I suggested - clean and verify operation first.

Or clean and install new one.

Besides, the Church for DTCs is not open until Sunday, so you got time to do all this before you worry about the DTCs.

On my '04, unplugging the EGR valve netted me 2 codes, but no CEL.

Unplugging the EGR is illegal.

It also puts the engine into a mild "limp" mode.

Plus, it can mask problems like a jammed open EGR valve.

Not recommended.

How do you do the EGR Relearn and the Turbo relearn?

Are there 2 different processes for this? All I can remember reading is the disconnect the batteries, lights on, ground + - together process.

Ok so ive cleaned the egr valve and reset the computer and done the relearn, the truck is still sputtering and around 2,000 rpm the truck shakes like crazy and then will stop past 2,000 rpms. I have not done the Italian tune up, is there anything else that this could be? Any suggestions?

Did you warm it up completely before attempting to rev over 2,000rpm?

If yes, the cheap and easy tricks are exhausted.

Go to tech folder, and start debugging each possible cause, from HPOP to Fuel to Injectors.
