ELECTRICAL IGNORAMUS HELP

Electrical problems have always been my weak point ( well, until computers came along! ).

Anyone know a good auto electrical book I can buy that spells out step by step trouble shooting and explains how to use different electrical tools like multi-meters, etc..?

You know, something like Automotive electrical for Dummy's?? LOL

I would really like to be able to do this stuff.

Thanks, Todd.

We possibly could zero in on what you need if you are working on a particular vehicle. If you are not interested in working on a fuel injected vehicle for instance, we could skip that whole can of worms. I have a book in mind if you are planning on working on a Ford from about 86-95 that has fuel injection.

I have a 72 F250. But what I'm really looking for is a basics book. Just like anything, there are basic principles of application and that is where I need to start. I was thinking along the lines of car electrical trouble shoting for dummies.

Hey bud, honestly, nothing beats a short 4 month night course.

You will also meet peers, and the instructor that will be valuable sounding boards.

Can't work as a loner in this biz... gotta have knowledgeable friends.

Here's a book that gets fairly good reviews. Apparently some of the tech schools use it. But I don't personally have a copy.
Amazon.com: Diagnosis and Troubleshooting of Automotive Electrical, Electronic, and Computer Systems (3rd Edition) (9780130799791): James D. Halderman, Chase D. Mitchell: Books

I have a 2 year degree in electronics, but picked up the automotive stuff here and there along the way. The method of learning it is up to you. If the classroom suits your needs, by all means go to a course. If you want to hunt and search around on the web, you can find stuff also.

If you have any questions or a concept you can't get a grasp on, ask it in here and someone should be able to help you out.

Thanks Dave. I'll check out the book.
