Finally got my 69 F100 4x4 on the road. The 4 wheel drive works, but it didnt want to be shifted out of four wheel drive. The hubs didnt want to unlock either. The left hub unlocked using a crescent wrench, and the whole front end went clunk. Then the other hub unlocked easily, and then the transfer case was easy to shift into two wheel drive.
The splines inside one of the hubs were damaged slightly, but I cleaned them up with a file, to where the locking mechanism could slide in freely.
Do you have any advice for someone new to these four wheel drive trucks.
hey victor glad you got that on the road. when it bound up where you on solid ground or dirt/gravel. also did you try rocking the truck back and forth. this happen to me once or twice and i had to rock it back and forth to get the tension off of the transfer case and the dif. hope this helps out
Level, and on gravel. I tried rocking, like from first to reverse. But I dont remember if I actually tried rocking the truck by the tire.
It's funny how once one hub unlocked, everything else unlocked freely.
Also, I'm wondering if I lubed up all the mechanism properly.
