I've finally got my cab off I'm fairly happy with what i've found with the exception of the cab mounts. I had to torch the old body mounts off only to find 4 big oblong rusted holes. I know this is a common problem and easily resolved but how? I know bronco graveyard sells "washers" that you can weld on, which would cost right around 20 bucks, not bad, I would rather pay the extra $$$ instead of trying to make my own and making the center bore just right.
My big question is, how do you figure where to weld them on? If my logic is right, if your off a half inch on one side, and a half inch on the other, added together thats an inch off what it was stock.
So unless I'm overlooking or overthinking something, this could be a major problem. So if you've done this before, or have and idea. Let me know. Thanks.
FX5, I know a lot of mounts are fixed with the washers, I was able to get a set of mounts from Az. that were cut off a rust free truck. Just had to grind off the old rivets on my frame and bolt on the new ones. I think it was arround 40-50 bucks from a place called "Driven" in AZ. I can try to find their # if you want, just another option. PM me if you need the #.
we used some really thick flat stock. bolted down the back of the cab, bolted the front of the cab to the flat stock, set it in place, put a few tacks in place to hold the stock still, lifted the cab back up, and did finish welding. i would have much rather found a set of new mounts, but you do what you can with what you have.
check around for guys that deal with southen truck and truck parts. i bought used rust free mounts ( both front and the rear mount ) from mikes truck salvage . great guy to do business with.
