Hi all, I'm new to the whole diesel scene. Just got a '00 F-250 4x2 CC SB Lariat, 7.3/4R100. Sorry if this has been covered, I searched Google but didn't find a good answer. I'm looking to run a DP Economy tune and also have a Insight CS to monitor EGT/Boost/etc. I run the Insight and still be able to have switch on the fly, maybe with a OBDII splitter? Also, what is the difference between the Econo and Econo Mountain tunes?
You should be able to use both without a problem. Like you said, the Insight plugs into the ODBII port and the DP tuner connects to the PCM. The one problem with the Insight is that it isn't as accurate as regular guages because they use factory sensors (except EGT probe).
Oops, didn't know the Insight plugged into the PCM. I only heard about the 6.4 tuners and assumed the 7.3 was the same way. What do you guys use to get the "protective coating" off the PCM connector before attaching the chip?
Also what is the difference between the two tunes specifically?

The 7.3l PCM has a J3 port for chip modules to easily be inserted. The 6.4l's don't. All PCM programming has to be done through the OBDII on 6.0's and 6.4's. 7.3's you can program the PCM both ways.
Are doing a Flashed PCM with one tune or getting a multi position chip?
Before touching the PCM to install a chip you need to know the proper procedure to cleaning the J3 port contacts.
The insight plugs up to the OBDII port and is used for a gauge. The chip plugs into the J3 port of the PCM. You can use both together, but you cannot use the Insight to control our chip for switching.

Thanks for the response, I would do a multi-position chip
Do you already have this Insight SC monitor? If you dont then like staed above I would look into getting real guages so you know exactly whats goin on under the hood.
I do not know about the insight monitor, However I have the Aerforce interceptor gauges that plug into the obd11 and when I put my Dp in a tune my boost reads in-accurately. It will actually read negative boost at idle, lol. which is not possible because that would be "vacuum". Perhaps DP can chime in on why this happens. I would guess its because the tuner is fooling that map sensor and that is where the gauges are reading boost from.

Any particular reason for this? I did consider both alternatives, I already have a ScanGauge that I usually use in another car but transferred to this one to get an idea of whats going on. I think the EOT and tranny temps are accurate. The boost wouldn't be a big deal to me, as long as it's precise it doesn't have to be accurate (ie. if everyday it usually runs 17PSI and then today it's running 20 then I'd be concerned, even if in reality it's 15/18). The EGT should be accurate since it comes with its own probe. Anything else that is really important that wouldn't be accurate/precise on the OBDII signal?
