painting a grille?

I have a 90 ranger, it has a chrome grille on it, or at least it was chrome, its really starting to look bad in spots. So I was thinking of getting the grille and trim pieces painted the color of the truck. My concerns are that the truck has its original paint, its in good condition but its still 13 years old, is it remotely possible to match it, different shades of red together look Horrible in alot of cases. my second concern with the matching it is that the grille is plastic, as opposed to the metal body will that affect how it looks dry?
My other option is to just get a new grille and trim pieces, and I can get chrome, black or gray. The whole point of this is I just installed my clear corners today and i don't like what it looks like. so I'm in need of help with anyone whos had parts painted, and opinions of painting or just getting new pieces (black or chrome). Thanks .

Well first of all your grille is not chrome, it is a paint that is painted overtop ot the plastic. You can get chrome paint that would look just as good as the origional. Just take it off, sand it all down, clean it off with some solvent, and tach it off... then paint it using the instructions on the spray can. There are a few different kinds of this paint, just ask around to see what one is better, or maybe someone here has an idea.

If you have small dings and scratches in the grille, you may be able to use a bit of body filler to fill em. Just be sure to sand it all smooth.

As for the rest of the truck, you should look into having it cut pollished. This removes the first layer of paint and gives you a few more years of luster.
