I am an AOD expert, but I did save a listing of AOD's that lists the info. According to the list, the non-electric AOD's are 1980-1993 models. Lucky you!

The list:

As long as you have an AOD and not an AOD-E you are OK. The AOD-E was introduced in 1994 so you are probably fine as long as your donor was stock.

Even if you went with the AOD-E you can still get controls.

Couple other things - The early 90's trucks actually had some of the best AOD's to use. One of the weaknesses of this transmission was the dinky 1 1/2" wide overdrive band. It was easy to burn up. It was upgraded to a 2" wide band in all the later electronic transmissions, but the trucks got the upgrade in the plain 'ole hydraulic AOD earlier. Your transmission should also have most if not all of the factory upgrades and revisions for durability. In short - you picked a good one. While it doesn't have any electronic controls, it DOES have a throttle valve cable that runs up to the throttle body or carburetor. This matches the line pressure within the transmission to throttle position. It is critical that this cable be set up and adjusted properly or you'll cook the transmission. It isn't difficult, but it is important. Google "AOD throttle valve" and you'll find everything you need to know.
