I took out the valve body from my AOD tranny in my 88 F150.I found a couple of the valves seemed to be pretty sticky. I've got it all cleaned up and working smoothly now and will get new gaskets and reinstall soon. However, from what I'e gathered the AOD transmission is basically a POS. I plan to reinstall the valve body and test the truck to see if it shifts properly.If it does, I was thinking to once again drop the pan,remove the valve body and replace it with a TCI constant pressure unit. I figure to give myself a shot at a reliable tranny I'd probably be best off to do some preventative maintanence at the same time. I don't know what I should do though. I was looking at rebuild kits and there are so many options that I'm at a loss. What can I do to make the tranny a bit tougher and more reliable,besides the valve body? Should I go all out and replace all the clutches and bands,put in bigger OD servo etc or am I wasting my money? The truck has a 5.8 and will be doing a bit of light towing,like a small 12ft camping trailer,maybe a quad. I need to be able to rely on the tranny, when I get out in the bush I'm miles away from anything,including phone service. I plan to order my parts asap, so any advice would be great. Is there another forum out there that specializes in this sort of thing?
