first project

well, i am looking for my first project vehicle, and i like the 67-72 bodystyle of the f100's. first of all, what exactly should i look for? i'd like something i can drive while working on it. but eventually i'd like to give it a slight drop. where are the problem rust spots on these trucks? what do i need to particularly watch out for? or any other useful info. what would a solid driver run me roughly?

check out the rear cab corners, the front cab mounts, and the rockers. Also, make sure to take a good look at the floors, the windows tend to leak in these, and moisture gets trapped under the carpets, rotting the floor boards. You can still get patch panels to fix all of this, though. Just depends how much work you want to do.

Also check out the radiator support, they have a tendency to rust, and good ones can be tough to come by, depending on where you are.

One other thing, the bottom of the front fenders usually rot out also. No info on the 49, but you could post up a question in their forum.

my father and i bought my truck about three years ago when i was 12 and he paid 800 for it (i later bought it from him) but that was before i spent 500 to buy a rebuilt I6. they are fairly cheap for an okay running truck id say right around 1000 to 1500 is good for a well running truck some work is always needed. such as a disc brake conversion its just for your safety (40 year old drums aren't to good)
the inner fenders below the battery tends to rust as well
