94 Explorer Fuel Pressure Experience
My beloved 94 Explorer has 138k miles on it. I was having a starting problem which appeared to be a fuel related problem. The engine would turn over but not fire. When this happened the fuel pump would run when key was turned on and several on/off cycles to were required to build pressure and fire the engine. This would happen every once in a while, not very often. It usually happened after a prolonged shut down. The fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator were original and the fuel filter was replaced at 115k. I decided to tackle the problem and throw some money at it. I used Ford parts from Rockauto. Fuel pressure readings prior to changing equipment - KOEO 19, KOER 30, they should be KOEO 35-45, KOER 30-40. Changed the fuel filter and readings stayed the same. Changed the fuel pump and readings changed to KOEO 30, KOER 30. Changed the fuel pressure regulator and readings changed to KOEO 35, KOER 35. The idle and sound of the engine has improved, time will tell if the problem is actually solved.
