I have only ever seen 1 other truck with no cv joint in the front shaft. It is a '78 that belongs to a friend of mine and it is a 4 speed F-250. Very rare indeed. I don't know of the back ground behind them, Maybe Number Dummy might ?
My 1977 F-150 4x4 does not have the CV joint. I don't seem to need it at all, doesn't cause any probs for me. I would like to know which trucks get the CV and which dont as well.

Wonder if they drove them after they came off the assembly line and if there was a vibration they said "put a double cardon shaft on that sum btch"
hmmmmm. as far as my memory serves me.... the Bronco is the only one with a factory dual cardon joint, an thats on the rear driveshaft. (factory suspensions). even the newer trucks have U-joint an yokes for the front driveshaft. most of the time when you lift more than 6 inches, its gonna require a custom driveshaft, or rotating the pumpkin (in addition to a longer drive shaft). Not that i'm against lifting a truck, if its a 4x4, sky it, if its 2wd, slam it. they can be lots of custom work to get a lift just right (depending on how big you can afford to go). again, junt my $.03.
Ron, Sorry for the long delay. I have been working on my house and I need to get that finished before I can go back and play with the Ford.
I called a local drive line shop (South Bay Drive Line) and they said they would build a new DL for it that will solve my issues for $450. I thought it was a bit steep but I need to have the DL modified anyway because of the added lift so now I will get one made when I'm done with the house project.
For now I'm just driving it around and enjoying it!
you will be fine as the shims wont mess with your alignment. rebuilding or replacing your drive shaft would also benefit since it doesnt look to be the appropriate one. i have the same exact lift on my truck and had the same problem so i added 2.5 degree shims and the u joints dont bind anymore even though it is really close.
here are the only pics i have of them now if you would like i can take some better ones if needed.

i had this same problem on another ford i owned when i was a teenager. i took the short leaf out of a front spring pack from a highboy and cut it , drilled the holes and bolted it to the spring pack. problem solved.
Looking at the pics, NBC-Steves truck has the slip yoke @ the T-case and Ronzis truck has the slip yoke @ the differential. Somebodies driveline is in backwards.

Thanks for the photos, Do you have one that shows the angle of the front drive shaft? Also did you have to drill out the indent on the shim and was there enough pilot bolt left to get to the spring?
