Does anybody here know what kind of problems I might run into by swapping out my E4OD with an AOD? I have a 78 F100 with the 351W, E4OD, etc. that I took from a 91 E150. Which is why I posted this thread here and not in the forum for that particular model truck. I've had misc. issues with the tranny since the get go. I've managed to eliminate most of them but I'm still plagued with problems from time to time. Right now it doesn't always to shift properly. Could the high gear ratio in the rear end cause this? Right now the ring/pinion ratio is about 3.25:1. I have a 3.89:1 ratio waiting to get put in, which if I done my math right, should bring the over all ratio close to the same as the van that the engine/tanny came from. I included the larger tire size, etc. when figuring out what ratio I should use. I also retained the 9" rear end that was in the truck, which doesn't have the wheel speed sensor that the van had. Could that also have anything to do with how the tranny is acting from time to time? As far as I knew, that speed sensor was for the braking system and shouldn't of had anything to do with the tranny. Plus after some research, I found that these E4OD's of this year were plagued with problems and are very expensive to rebuild/repair.
And their GINORMOUS to boot. They must weight damn near the same as the engine!
I just want something simpler and lighter. Something that won't need all the electronically controlled nonsense. I'm hoping I can still use the 3.89:1 gear ratio as well with the AOD gear ratios.
Ask here : General Click Click Tech this is the best AOD info site I've seen. I just got a valve body that has a overdrive lock out for my AOD from a guy on there.
Hey thanks. Looks like there's a lot of good info o there.
I stopped over at a buddies house yesterday to have some welding done on my exhaust. I mentioned I was thinking of going with an AOD and he pointed to two of them he had in his shed. SWEET!
Now just ti figure out all the gear ratios and see if I still want to swap in those 3.89:1 gears into the 9".
Well this is retarded! I've been trying to register for that website you mention above. But it keeps telling me that I'm answering the random question wrong. The random question is "What Company Built The Mustang?" First I put Ford Motor Company, then Ford, and finally FoMoCo. All Wrong!
Ok! So I tried "ford" and it worked. Case sensitive! Go figure. i guess I was just being to **** maybe. LOL!
