Well, my 1980 Ford F-150 is turning out to be a better deal than ever. My father and got the old beast running today and the motor runs very very strong. We figure now that there is no way this thing has 200,000 miles. The motor fired right up, no smoke, no lifter noise, no knocking, nothing. We tooled around in it and it has plenty of power to move that old Ford with ease. The carb does need a rebuild, but I am just going to toss on the 4-barrel as originally planned instead of swapping the 460 in for it. It needs some valve cover gaskets, but other than that and a tune up, it looks like there is alot of life left in the 302 after all.
The valve cover gaskets are a easy easy fix. It also gives you a good chance to clean them up and repaint them real quick if wanted. Makes your engine look alot better.
Replacing the carb should be easy, just make sure you get a 4 barrel intake to replace the old 2 barrel. You can find an old cast iron 4 barrel from someone elses vehicle that they replaced with an aluminum for cheap, or if your wanting a aluiminum you can search ebay or such for a cheaper one.
