brights go out

when I am driving in the mountains with my brights on they sometimes go out but they still work if I switch to dims. The dash lights and everything else stays on. Is this my dimmer switch?

It is most likely the headlight switch itself

brights go out

I had the same problem and it ended up beigh the dimmer switch. Mine did it and would not come back on on night so i had to pull the switch out and loop a wire through the plug so i could have lows. But the new switches keep breaking so i wire it in on a togle switch so when my highs are on so are the low it really lights up the road better.

I tried a new switch it didnt work. The old switch was full of dirt and was hard to operate. My brights still go out on gravel roads and after long periods of use over 10 or 20 minutes. I hope it isnt the headlight switch. Is it possible that thats what it is? I never have the problem on dims its just brights. They either flicker or go out. What are some things to check?

Lightbulb brights go out

Its possible that the three (3) prong connector that plugs into the dimmer switch could be shorting across. Just a thought.

brights go out

Could be that it's the headlight switch. On high beam the lights take a little more current and it might be enough to trip the circuit breaker in the switch. They do get weak over time. Especially once they've been tripped. You could try running the high beams through a relay fed from the battery. Check out this link to "brighter brights, whiter whites".

Hope this helps.

When you have headlight problems like these, for safety, just replace BOTH the headlight switch and the dimmer switch. Check all of your connections especially at the dimmer switch, the wires corrode there. Then if you want great lights install the relays!

Headlights and brakes are just too important to mess around with, -Fix it right!
