I am trying to figure out what I would need to do in order to put bigger tires on my 79 F-150. It currently has 32x15's on it and I want to put 35x15's on it. I think the truck has the stock suspension lift on it.
What would I need to do in order to make the 35's work? I have seen body lift kits and suspension lift kits. I know that a body lift would be cheapest. My concern is whether the truck will look right with a 3" body lift kit.
Does it just lift the body off the frame say 3"?
I don't know much about a body lift, so not sure what it consists of..
I am not sure if I would need to lift it 4" or go up to 6". I looked under the rear of the truck and it has a metal block between the axle and leaf springs. It looks factory, but I wanted to be sure before I go out and purchase the lift kit and it turns out to be the wrong size.
I noticed on some of the lift kits, it comes with some kind of "poly" blocks.
Do these blocks go in "addition" to the existing block or does it replace it?
I have a 4" lift and I have 35's on with no issue. I could prolly fit 37's actually. However with my 4 inch lift the truck drives, but it does need the driveshaft lengthened to be fully capable.
I was told it has a ~4" lift when I bought it. I haven't seen a bone stock suspension, so I can't be sure. My 79 parts rig has the same blocks under the springs in the back, maybe 2" tall or a bit more. My coils in the front were a good 1 1/2" taller than the 79's so I really don't know exactly what it is. The airbags in the back give me at least 6" of adjustment, so it sits level. With the 35s on it the cab is right at 80" and the bottom of the rocker is right at 24" off the ground.
