23 mpg?in a ford truck?i get 17 on a great day.i have a k and n filter and mobil one syn. oil and my mpg is awful.truck is only 10 months old
Are you going by the MPG gauge on the truck? Did you reset it? I avg.'d 20.4MPG on a recient Northern Michigan road trip, traveling between 55-74mph over 1,100miles. I reset it a few times too, and figured it out myself and thats what I was averaging.
The new F150 FX4 has a rear locking differential with a 3:73s. But like one user said, you should look at the SVT Raptor. But they cost an awful lot. If you can wait a little while longer, the 2011 F150 will be here. I'd get a 2011 F150 FX4 with the 6.2L for the most power, but the new 5.0L has more power than the outgoing 5.4L in the 2010 models. The FX4 also has skid plates. That's about it. That's all that makes it an "FX4".

For me, the FX4 was a great package. I have leather trimmed seats, rear sliding window, and all the chassis upgrades of the FX4 including the tow-plus package. Piecing all this together would have cost a good bit more in an XLT/Lariat and then not had rear locker/skid plates etc. The FX4 makes for a really nice package for sure.
The Raptor is a purpose built truck and I am not sure the original-poster made off-road capability a top priority over other features like safety. I could be misunderstanding his question. In my opinion, the FX4 is a superb package, but I am biased I suppose.
