35's rubbing

I have 35's on my 79 ff150 4x4, 400. They seem to be rubbing on the radius arm and i know you can adjust the bump stops but i also want to know what is the right offset for 15's in order for them not to rub. I think that there will be very limited turning radius if i do adjust the bump stop and these trucks already have a limited turning radius.

Thanks,
Dave

Pretty much any truck I've ever seen with radius arms and larger tires rub. Rangers do it, F-150's and broncos do it, my old exploder did it, etc. unless you do something silly like put some big wheel spacers on to move the wheels out or find some very low offset wheels the things will rub. It just is what it is with radius arm trucks and bigger tires.

Alright, well then how do you adjust the bump stops? Ive been trrying to figure this out but have had no luck finding somewhere that tells me how to adjust these! And thanks, i guess i should have figured but i had my old mickey thompson that were beefy tires and werent radials. They didnt rub with the wheels that i had but the wheels were just really tired and not worth repairing. when i bought the new tires they came witha set of wheels that look like cragar soft 8's, not positive because i cant find anything on them that say what they are and the po didnt know either. Could it be that the bump stops were set up for the previous wheels and tires? and now that i have thinner, not so beefy tires the bump stops need to be re-adjusted?

Thanks,
Dave

I'd have to look at a 4wd again ti tell you how to set the turn stops, but it should be pretty self explanatory if I remember right. Like threading a bolt in the knuckle out a bit more.

One thing I forgot to mention before was wider wheels will also compound the problem of rubbing - usually.

Chances are your "new" wheels have less offset than the old ones and that is where the rubbing is coming from. If you have the time measure the offset difference between the "new" and old wheels to compare.

The factory alcoa wheels I like to run (off the 92-96 F-150's / broncos) are 15x7 with 4.25" backspacing if I remember right and they rub with 35's. Granted this is on a 2wd, but it's radius arms - so same thing.
