And just in case you're wondering why we do this, it is because of that feeling you got when you were all done and it worked!

We get the same feeling helping others!
(At least I do, and I'm sure most everyone in this thread does as well)

-Enjoy

Ok bad news!
Its leaking.
It's not leaking from the stat housing though.
Tore it all apart again and its dry.
Its further back but i can't find where its coming from.
It comes down the starter from somewhere.
Where does the coolant flow..
Are there seals or hoses ?!?
Where do I start???

Ok its coming down the drivers side, and looks like its not the oil cooler but above it so I'm assuming its the head gasket.
How big of a job is that??

There are various plugs, both threaded and non that it could also be. (Frost plugs and block heaters are other areas that can leak too.)

I spent some time under the truck last night.
Cleaning everything up and making sure everything was dry.
I also tightened anything that would take a little torgue.
I let it sit over night and checked again today for leaks or wetness
but everything was clean and dry still so I took it for a 20 minute ride.
I just got out from under it a I can't see any leak or wetness.
It's still in my shop so I'll head back out in a bit,let things cool down.
I didn't see leaks at the Block Heater, and my Cirulating heater is inline and it's not leakin either.
I will look to see if theres 2 Frost plugs and I missed 1
Appreciate the input guys

No I did not pressurize the rad with out running the engine.
How is that done?
and
What would that test accomplish?
I know the rad is not leaking

it is a hand pump that has a hose and adapter to fit on the radiator in place of the radiator cap and all you do then is pump the system up to pressure and then you ca visually look for the leaks it save a whole bunch of time , and you can keep it under pressure as long as you want so you have time to look !!
NAPPA , SNAP ON , MAC , HARBOR FREIGHT , sell them as do others that i cant think of now , i have owned one from all the above at various times in my life , your local auto parts store mite even rent them or let you barrow it .

Canadian Tire doesn't sell it so they don't have 1 to loan
Active Rental does but their 30 min away and they close at 5pm so I'll pick it up 7:30am tomoro morning.

So is it a gradual increase in pump pressure to a certain point all the while looking and checking for leaks ??
Whats the max pressure I want to apply??

there will be a gauge on it so you can pump it to the pressure you need . pump it up to the pressure that your system runs at , if not sure what it is then go by the PSI on the radiator cap

Does the Coolant Reservoir pressurize as well??
I'm just wondering because I just looked and the Reservoir is empty(after filling the rad yesterday I filled the reservoir to the COLD level).
Then I took it for the drive and found the leak afterwards.
What happens to the Reservoir Coolant and how is it used?

the reservoir does not get pressurized , it is just a expansion tank !
when coolant gets hot it will expand and when it does the pressure builds up and forces the coolant out of the radiator . it will then go into the reservoir tank and then when when the engine cools down the coolant will then contract and it creates a vacuum to witch it will draw the coolant back into the radiator

Could very well be I have a cracked reservoir and thats where the leak came from yesterday after redoing the Stat and gasket.
No coolant in the reservoir no leak.
I'll pull the reservoir out in the morning and check it for cracks.

if it plastic it very well could have a leak , on my truck the reservoirs are long gone they dont seem to last long here in the desert . what i have done in the past is build them out of steel . you can also buy aftermarket ones or see what some of the big trucks have
f-600 and up to semis , all makes some would have some thing that can work some dont
