When it is cool, and only then, I am experiencing an intermittent failure to "crank". When the key is turned to the start position all the dash lights go out, but there is no attempt to start and no clicking noise. If I release the key and try again, it usually starts right up, but occasionally, it will repeat what I described and then start on the 3rd attempt.
Keep in mind that this only happens when it is cool. Once warm, the start procedure is normal. I have replaced the starter relay with a new Motorcraft unit with no change.
This morning, I tried something different. On the initial attempt, it failed to crank, but instead of releasing the key and trying again, I just held the key in the start position and within a second or two, the truck started???
By the way, I have a manual 4 speed OD and I have the clutch in to the floor and the transmission in neutral.
