Hey guys. Just dug out my old superchips max micro tuner from my old expedition. It should fit my 02 F250 V10 no problem as per their website and the box its in. Went to install in my truck and it says update needed. I have no receipt and I paid over $400 in 03 for it. I DO NOT want to pay anymore out of pocket. How easy is it to get this resolved? I have no problem shipping to them.
I've been emailing them back and forth. Basically they want $29.95 + shipping which is still ridiculous considering the box says 96-02 and my truck is an 02. I already paid over $400 for this POS back in the day. It's a wonder how they're still in business.
If it can't be updated via the internet (I have no idea how SC handles updates), how are you expecting them to update it?
I understand you want it for free, but IMHO you want to much for a 7 year old electronic product that you have been using for 7 years.
Would you expect Dell to update your 7 year old laptop for Windows 7 for free?
It's still less expensive than buying a new one (SC or other brand).
Again, it seems like a good deal to me.
EDIT: You might not know or understand that manufacturers add/change engine calibrations throughout the model year. The programmer has to be updated to support those added calibrations.
I do understand, but again, the product does not work as advertised. It is a good deal but at the same time they are trying to get more money out of a customer whom already purchased the product that should work as described. It blatantly says on my box "96-02"....
They need to reprogram it through their facility. Also, if my "Dell" came with windows xp I would not want windows 7 free due to the fact it came with xp and not advertised as Windows 7. Catch my drift? I am only out to get my product working again which should have worked in the first place. I own my own business and customer satisfaction should always be #1!
Unfortunately at that time (2002), tuners were relatively new and I'm sure SC did not plan on supporting them for 7+ years.
As a business person, imagine if every customer that bought one expected to be able to send them back, have them unpacked, updated, re-packed, and shipped for free. What if the customers sent them back 2 or 3 times?
Not trying to argue, but $29.95 is a bargain IMHO.
I know it's a bargain but I unfortunately cannot get my head around the fact that they want ~$30 for an update, sorry. I do not mind paying for shipping though.
