97 Explorer HVAC
I'm having a problem with the Hheat-A/C in a 1997 Explorer 5.0. I have no temperature control. If I have it set to the vents, defrost, or even regualr A/C the air comes out burning hot. When I turn it to Max A/C it comes out freezing cold. I had the A/C system checked, and replaced the temperature switch in the dash panel with no luck. Before taking it to the dealership for them to poke around with no answer I wanted to give this a shot. It was hard enough trying to explain what switch I wanted.

i believe you have the dredded blend door, get out the link given it has all the info that you need or go through the topics looking for all the dicussion's on the blend door problem and you can find you answer, good luck, my girl friend has a 97 explorer and I am waiting for the day that this happens to me for now I just tell her to turn the fan off before change from floor to defrost or panel and hoping that this dosn't put the strain on the door when be change,

Thanks for the info, this seems like it is the problem. Unfortunatly, with the recent weather in NY, & no garage, this fix will be postponed until too much heat is actually a problem.

I understand fully! Ha Ha. I am in the NIagara Region in southern Ontario and have put up with the same weather that you are joebogey. Tomorrow is supposed to warm up quite a bit though.
