Can anybody tell me why they are called modular engines.

The engine was designed to be used in different configurations that can use many of the same parts. For example, the pistons,valves, etc are the same for a 5.4L as a 6.8L. The difference is that one has 8 cylinders and the other has 10. Each cylinder is the same.
