Fuel PSI

Got a pressure gauge from Harbor Freight like someone suggested, thanks.
Should the pressure fluctuate? Mine was bouncing from 50-60 at idle. Is that normal since the motor lopes a little at idle?

I would call it 55 PSI. I believe it's good!

mine is 97 cali and it bounces 60-70 heard that is normal

yasir! I shimmed my FPR on my Cali and my fuel pump went out sooooon after! (so if you are thinking about it, I wouldn't do it). I don't know the voodoo behind it but the Cali's come with a high pressure already there.

That's within normal range. You could shim it and get it up to about 70-75 which would be good. But don't let it get above 80psi at idle.

That's good. The cali trucks had a higher pressure to begin with. But don't shim a cali truck.

That's good. The cali trucks had a higher pressure to begin with. But don't shim a cali truck.
On a DA 4856 I would have to check "I agree" (in Session Closing) and sign it!

Does harbor freight have a cheap fuel pressure guage or something?

15 bucks, item #92699. has several hoses and fittings for fuel injection. guage is a little cheap, but still worth it for the accessories. going to get a better guage when this one dies.
so it is normal for the psi to bounce, would it still be worth it to shim the fpr? or will it kill my pump?

gauge is going to bounce because the pump is ran off the cam

if it's a Cali model then no but if not you could and it could hurt your pump

i have a fuel leak that i need to address, havent had time to investigate yet. as soon as i get my dually back together i am going to start on this one. if it is the pump leaking, i will replace, but if not, i will probably fix the leak and leave the existing pump. the dually repairs are adding up quick.

does anyone know a supplier for the fuel lines, o-rings, etc that would be needed to replace everything at the pump, fuel bowl, etc?? my local guy is taking forever and i need my truck back together.

here ya go Replacement O-rings for Ford Diesel Engines they have fuel line too

Since you have a '95 you could shim it and you'd be ok. I would fix the fuel leak first and then see what your pressure is at, if it's still below 60psi then you can shim it, just make sure you check it after the shim and check that it isn't over 80psi

As long as you keep pressure to 70-75 psi you are fine. These engines were designed to operate at around 65 psi or so.
