I'm looking at replacing my fuel injectors(again, long story short, I got some shatty rebuilt ones and now have issues) and when I'm at it, I figured Id tare into the front of the motor and put a new timming chain in it,(148,000 miles on motor) so might as well go a step farther and slap a new cam in right? lol, well I'm new to this fuel injection mod stuff, so I'm kinda clueless as to what works and what does not....
do you have a MAF or SD 302???? If you have MAF just about any cam will work but if you have SD there are only a few choices due to the engine working on high vacuum pressure.
If you don't know how to tell... Look under the hood and see if you have a air meter with a couple wires running to it... It will be inbetween the air filter box and your throttle body.
That's a complete NO GO on both those items, your EFI system cannot adjust to nor does it need larger injectors, and besides the fact that the Ford alphabet cams are a terrible choice for a truck 5.0 they're not SD compatable either. Get yourself a new timing set and spring for the better Cloyes true double roller.. it's about $100, and add 1.7 rockers instead of changing the cam. The stock cam in this motor is about as good a truck cam as it gets.. it just needs more lift to let the motor to breath better and the rockers will accomplish that.

Really?! reason I looked at thoes injectors is this is in the aplication list...<TABLE class=app><TBODY><TR><TD class=app-labels>OEM Stock Replacement</TD><TD class=app-midmargin></TD><TD class=app-data>Yes</TD></TR><TR><TD class=app-labels>Computer and Engine Modifications Required</TD><TD class=app-midmargin></TD><TD class=app-data>No</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
Mine Is a MAF motor, so does that still make it a bad cam to pick?
I was looking at different rockers, but didnt think they would make much difference by themselfs..
So the truck in question has mass air but that doesn't change my suggestion, you could use a HO cam or the Comp XE264HR that I have but I don't think you will see much gain over the stock cam and rockers.. any gains that are realized happen at the top of the tach and that's not so good for milage.. my truck currently gets no more than 13mpg. If you really want to light a fire under the hood start looking for a 5.8 to swap in, it's takes more displacement to move 5000lbs around with authority.

That's wrong.. the computer is programmed for 19lb injectors so anything else will mess things up. 19's are good for 300+ hp anyway and you're nowhere near that yet.

Yes.. the EFI system has no impact on the engine powerband that's all about the cam.

I'd have to agree with "the devil" (LOL)... Paul is right you need a bigger engine to move that truck... The 5.0L in my opinion was always better suited for a mustang or explorer rather than a truck. The 5.8L swap is a common one since you can get a lot more "pep in your step with it..." I personally wouldn't spend excessive $$$ on a 302 when you can get more grunt for your buck with a 351w... Just my $0.02...
