I have a C6 behind a 428 with 3:73 rear gears. Not sure what the rear end is. Dana???? The truck is a 72' F250
The truck originally came with a 302.
It's great driving around town and really seems to love cruising around 45-50 mph.
However, on the highway, anything above 65 and she is screaming.
Are there any tranny options out there that have 4 speed or overdrive that I could drop in? The C6 is a 3 speed.
It's obvious I know very little about AUTOMATICS.
I'm not sure about changing the rear gears. Never have done it. Plus I wouldn't even know what would be a good ratio to change to that would give me less RPM's at 70 mph which about as fast as I really want to cruise on the Highway.
I imagine any tranny option is not going to be cheap but I hate listening to that 428 running hard just to stay in traffic.
You would need some expensive adaptors to mate anything other than an FE block C6 to your engine.
As for rear gears the highest gears (numerically lower) gears I have ever seen available for a dana 60 are 3.31. There are some gear ratio calculators here on the website so you can play around with what would sound good to you. Maybe you could also try a taller tire. I run 255/85/16in. on my F250 w/3.73 and turn about 2750 rpm's @ 60mph.

I think I have the same size tires and I know the rims are 16 in.
