Universal bumper pull solution?
I know the best route is a WD hitch. However, the only way to make that work is set up the whole system right from the start - and you need to install the brackets on the trailer to do that. What if that isn't an option?
My "universal" solution is a 3-ball height adjustable drawbar by BPC. I always have the right size ball and I can adjust it to match the level height of the toung, as well as compensate for different loading conditions. I also have a solid forged pintle hook/drawbar combo made by BPC as a tow point for vehicle recovery - 4 wheeling or roadside in the winter. Its only seen one trailer and thats because the tree trimmer truck (GMC 6500 half loaded with chips) sank in dad's back yard and we had to pull the chipper off to get him through the mud. The only piece I don't have covered is a pin hitch, which I've never had a use for anyway.
Looking back on it I wish I got a hitch that had a pintle hook too - so it was a 4-way not a 3-way.
