Ok fellas, tried to find answers but no luck. Long story short, swapped in 86 351 4v. Hooked up ignition had it running. Soldered connections then it lost fire. Dist pickup bad, which i had just replaced in the old truck. Bought msd pro billet, blaster 2, and sf ignition, copper autolites. read here about gapping to .055 and advancing to 15deg which i did. my truck stil hesitated bad. At 10 it wont come off idle. at 18-20 it screams and still cranks fine. It may have had a mild cam but idles really smooth. Is this ok? BTW firing order right, timing off #1, tried all combinations of springs in dist, and yes turn clockwise to advance to before tdc.

Sounds a little hot for a daily driver. 16 sounds better. but ping at idle or under load's what's the biggest determinant factor. As least your not trying to run double platinums. Then I'd be really worried. 87 octane?
Where is your ping threshold?
You are replaceing the spout plug?
What does your timing read w/ spout plug in, when base time w/ spout out reads 18 BTDC?
Swapped in 4 barrel motor. No spout. Haven't really had it out far enough to ping. At 10 if i hit it from idle it would backfire through carb but did good and actually idled smoother at 18. Motor had new holley/moto on it (no miles but several years) so i went through it but raising the float level only difference carb made. Played with it more and at 18-20 is best. Running strong but started loading up. Thinking power valve again. Oh yea, 87. Stock heads, shouldn't need high test unless dome pistons (which im sure its not) right? PS the donor Bronco had new tank so I used it. Poured fresh 5g in it Fri. then filled it up Sat. Holy crap! $69.86 and 27 gallons!
When I get off work at 7AM gonna put power valve in and try it out. Can't wait to get a trailer behind it to really test it. Is .055 good gap for complete msd ignition? Anyone got much experience with the springs in a pro-billet? Didn't seem to make any diffference which ones i ran.
