Hi all, I have an '86 E150 SWB that has a 300 and 4 speed stick in it 297k miles. I have used this van for a work van for many years and all I have had to do to it is minor (alt, wpump, clutch etc). Anyway, she is no longer needed for a work van but I do love her and don't want to get rid of it. I am now driving my '04 F350 CC Dually as well as the van to my office job. I am getting tired of all the little back roads in the dually but I do like them in the van. What I am wanting to do is make a hot rod out of the van, YES a hot rod. I have an '87 5.0 H.O. out of a Mustang and auto that I would like to rebuild and install as well as some suspension work such as lowering it. The engine will have to be carbed but other than that, not sure what else I will do to it. I have found a place that makes dropped I-beams for her (http://www.airbagit.com/product-p/ibe-fo7791-van1.htm) I also would like to install sway bars front and rear as well as rear disc but I need some sources for this. Ok now the fun begins, I am looking for your input on my plans as well as suggestions for upgrades. I have searched but can't find anything like I am planning.
I'd keep that 4 speed in there if I were you-they are kinda cool!! You can use the same bellhousing on the 5.0 engine but will have to get a properly balanced flywheel for the year 5.0 you have-you will see that the trans mount will slide-you will need to loosen it and slide the trans forward.
Thanks Guys, I have been toying around with the 4 speed just not sure about that yet. As far as a chop top goes, I don't believe I will be going that extreme but it would definitely be cool.
