Any of you F350 drivers have a hood shield on your truck?
I was trying to decide if I should get a black one or get the stainless steel one to kinda match my front grill and bumper.
I'm kinda indecisive and thougth I would see what you guys are using.
I have the smoked one on my truck. Another guy anound here has the same color truck as mine and he has the stainless. If mine ever breaks i'm going to get the stainless one, his looks sharp.
I have heard that those mess with your windshield washer spray and also the air inlets at the base of the windshield for A/C and heater. Has anyone else heard of these issues?
I've got the regular smoked gray (black) one on my truck, looks good. I've seen some with the stainless, and they don't really do anything for me. I think the black one matches the trim better (and I have alot of chrome on my truck). The stainless is too much of a contrast and looks too flashy. I also have a red truck. My $.02
I'm with Big Red, I think the stainless ones are a little too flashy, not my style anyway.
As for the other concerns, they don't harm wiper action or AC inlet vent as far as I know, not on mine anyway. I know they don't deflect bugs away from my windshield, more like directly at it. They do protect the front of your hood from stone chips though, and I think they look pretty good.
I have the Lund Stainless Steel Interceptor on my F250SD. I think it looks better than the smoked or colored bug shields. Ties all the chrome in very nicely. I also installed a large tube billet grille. Looks awesome with the stainless deflector. Truck is the new Sonic Blue Pearl. There is not much black on the truck. I like chrome and stainless
I have no trouble with the heater, AC, or the washer spray. Washer spray and wipers actually worked better with the bug shield. Also, stainless Interceptor sits off the hood a bit more for a more aggressive look.
I've got the smoke colored deflector on mine. It looks really good with the black grille guard.
I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but I've had 3 of the screws on my bug deflector work loose at different times. I've had to redrill each one, drilling a new hole in the deflector as well.
From: I'm lost somewhere in NJ -- can someone please find me?!?!?!?
Hood Shield
I've got the VentVisor models on mine -- hood deflectors as well as windows on the front & rear doors (Super Cab). I went with the "smoked" look, but recently added a chromed trim to them. You guys ever see that chrome door edging they sell? Well, the stuff looks GREAT on all of my shields. I had a roll of it sitting in my garage for a few months, and finally decided to put it on a few weeks ago. It matches the chrome bumpers perfectly without going too overboard. Even my friends who aren't into "flashy mods" thought it complimented my truck well. As soon as the weather clears & I give my baby a bath, I'll take some pictures.

I had to do the same thing to mine, the provide screws that go into the original holes in the hood don't seem to hold alot. I actually stripped mine putting it on.
Mines a matched color to my truck and is available from bugdeflector2. It doesn't affect the wipers at all and comes in all of our SD colors.
Just last week my truck took a big rock hit on the deflector and bounched the rock over the cab. No damage to the deflector, no chipped paint, just like the doctor ordered. These things really help keep rock chips away.
I have a Prairie Tan 99 F350 SD. The local Walmart was able to order a Bugflector hood deflector that matched the color of the truck. I think it looks better than the smoke colored ones.

I have owned multiple Fords, all with smoke bug shields, all different manufacturers. LUND seems to have the best mounting provisions. They require drilling over-sized holes and a hard rubber grommet which the screw threads into. The grommet expands as the screw penetrates and provides a vibration damped mount. In addition, a grommet is provided to seat through the lexan for isolating the shield from the hood, and hold the screw in place.
You may try retrofitting your shield to add the rubber grommets, or even contact LUND and ask for screws & grommets -- they are really great at sending out replacements if you loose some...
guys, ive seen a superduty driving around with the kind of bugshield deflector that mounts at the back of the hood right in front of the windshield, looked cool and very unique, i new a guy that used to have that setup on a Blazer, but never knew what company made them, not for the SD at least, but now i know someone makes them, im very intersted, anyone even know what im talking about, kind of goes over the area where the wiper motors are.
