My 97 F-150 has had a bad stumble at part throttle and full throttle and the CE code keeps coming up P0401 and recently I got a P1406 in addition. I have changed the egr valve and the dpfe sensor. Will the egr vacuum solenoid cause this problem? This problem has been going on for a while and I cannot figure it out. It recently had the oxygen sensors changed, new fuel injectors, new plugs and the cats have been removed and the problem still exists. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
In my humble opinion you need to change the way you go about working on your issues first.
Don't throw parts at a code or you come to the point your at now, confusion.
A 401 code is low flow.
Clean the ports behind the EGR valve for a start.
Then test the EGR operation and the vacuum regulator until you find the fault, or conclude a part is needed.
The 1406 code tells you there is a small hose off or faulty on the DPFE.
If after all these itmes have been addressed, you still have issues, then it may be ignition causing the miss.
On the headers, did you hook up the EGR pipe leak free?
What did you do with the rear OX senssors?
Looks like you have at least 3 seperate problems causing the confusion.
Good luck.
