White smoke

I left my house the other morning and had driven about four miles. The truck wasn't quite warmed up yet when I stopped at at light and felt the motor stumble. I knew it had gone into Regen and verified it via the message display. When I accelerated normally from the light a HUGE cloud of white smoke billowed from the tail pipe for about 30 seconds. It continued for about 1/2 mile slowly coming to an end. If a cop had been behind me I probably would have been stopped for safety reasons. I've never had this happen to me before and was quite concerned. Was the smoke because the motor wasn't fully warmed up? I drove the truck a long time (About 15 miles) and when I reached my destination it was still in Regen. I live in Florida and it was very humid the morning this happened and don't know if heat/humidity has anything to do with it. Also no CEL or any problems since. Thanks for any suggestions/advice in advance. LEO.

What you encounter in this case would be considered normal for the conditions. As long as your coolant level is normal you can chalk it up to the humidty and the motor going into regen probably when it was just inside the temp range.

It has happened to me one time only, just like you are indicating.

I've had this happen to me on numerous occasions. It seems to happen if the truck isn't fully heated up yet. Mine will billow, and I mean BILLOW, smoke even if I try to stay easy on the accelerator so I don't smoke the guy behind any more than I already do. I know it's smoke since it doesn't dissipate as fast as steam does. I'm sure one of these days I'll get reported to the 1-800 smog number. I plan to mention this to the dealer the next time I go in, but that probably won't be for a while :-(

Mine just did it again.... but this time my engine was fully heated up. It started smoking right after coming to a stop while it was in regen for about 5min. I was smoking everyone behind me as usual. It last about a minute or two.

Mine used to do it once it was heated up and in regen mode. Dealer changed an EGT probe.

Just found out the truck had bad turbos seals and they replaced the turbos. I suspect the leaky seals had something to do with it though...

I could see water causing STEM to billow out of the exhaust. But steam usually evaportaes quickly. Mine would billow SMOKE while in regen until I stuck it in park to get it to stop. Smoke doesn't evaporate.
