I work in downtown St Louis, last Saturday I went to walk down the street for linch and the Security guard asked me to lock the gate to the parking lot. (our lot is fenced and gated, about 3 or so blocks from the plant) The guard did not lock the gate that morning, the usual gaurd does, but he was off. He then informed me that someone had come ontot eh lot and was checking out one of the trucks on the lot. I ask him which one? He turns one of the cameras right onto my truck. I asked him what they were looking at and he said thay were looking through the windshield, like they were looking at the VIN. When I got home I took out all of my fishing rods out of the back, pulled the 2 meter radio out, and took out my streamlight and charger, I also pulled any paperwork out that would have any info on it, and stopped carrying my gun in the console. Finally to my question, What were they doing? Is it still possible to make a key from the VIN?
Yes it is possible to make a key from the VIN but not without proof of ownership. You have to bring the title or some other document with the VIN on it to the dealership for them to make a key.
sounds like your truck may have matched a repo description.....thats how they verify the truck/car....
license plate, if visible, is used as a preliminary match up......even if doesnt match, if your vehicle is the same make/year/color they will check the VIN to verify because thats the number one way people try to throw off the repo man is with a different tag.....
lol, i ride around with a buddy of mine who has been repoing for 20 years, he taught me a lot
I carry a .38 and .45 in my console and have the lockbox installed... It's completely legal in TX. Not only that but 2 years ago TX made your vehicle an extension of your home property...making the 'castle law' that much sweeter. Never have had to unlock the box other than to oil the two, but you never know these days when you need one...
I used to carry either a 40 or 45 GAP in my glove block locked which wasn't considered concealed in VA until recently. The law stated you could have a concealed weapon in the car as long as it wasn't within the drivers reach without having to turn the vehicle off. I heard recently they changed which pissed me off so I stopped carrying it.
yeah im thinking about getting my concealed license to carry my S&W. you never know what you may need it for and if its setting on the seat in plain sight your just asking to get it stolen
The problem I have is I have talked with a few police officers and once you get the license it flags you in the system and gives them the right to search your vehicle even if you are stopped for a traffic incident. Now its not like I am carrying anything illegal in my truck but it just annoys me that I lose rights because I want to protect myself.
Its true...it sucks my truck has gotten searched 2 of the 5 times I got pulled over...got a long talking to because I had "too many rounds" in my truck..I only had 4 clips total loaded...I went to the range the day before but got warned of "excessive force."
See I used to carry 2 fully loaded clips but then usually the rest of the box if not another whole box in the truck as well. You just never know how much you might need. I also can't afford to have my truck search just because of the license. I usually have company signs on the sides and that would just not look good to potential clients. I guess no license for me oh well.
