Cheapest place to get um is at Walmart. They carry the Motorcraft, made by Wix.

Motorcraft FL-1995 (Made by Purolator)

Napa Gold 1734 (Made by Wix)

The regular Napa filters are NOT Wix filters, only the Gold line is.

The Motorcraft is Made by Wix, it's the same filter as a Napa GOld. The package says Wix right on it.

Get them at Walmart for $8.00 less than a Napa Gold.

I dunno know what to say other then I would have to see it to believe it ...

Everything I find says they are still made by Purolator, including Purolator just a few years ago.

I do know for a fact that Purolator did make them, I do not know for sure that they still do.

BTW, Purolator is coined from 'Pure Oil Later' and is the original oil filter, invented by Ernest Sweetland and George H. Greenhalgh.

Yes the PSD has a finer filter media. Added to protect the addition of a Turbo to the Ford Diesels.

FH, I couldda swore I read Wix on the bottom of the box of a Motorcraft filter. But, I went out and looked, and it doesn't say it on the bottom of any of My FL1995's.

Musta been thinking of the Napa Gold box???

The Motorcrafts prolly are made by Purolator. Which IMO are just as good as a Wix.

I have used the Motorcraft ones at walmart, oil tends to look dirty a little faster to me.

Since we are talking about oil and filters how often do you guys change yours?
I myself figure my truck falls under the heavy use guidelines so I change it every 3000, which for me is about every 2 months.

Motorcraft FL-1995
I have been unable to find the exact specs, however the Motorcraft Filter brochure states:
"They remove over 80% of particles larger than 20 microns from your oil."
From that one can infer the micron rating to be at a minimum of 20 micron, if you know and understand filtration technology it is more likely around 30 micron. The nature of woven type membranes!

Napa Gold 1734 (FL-1995 equivalent)
Quote from Napa on the Napa Gold 1734
"NAPA Gold Oil Filters Hold 45% More Dirt + Last 30% Longer Than Other Leading Competitive Brands.; 19 Micron"
Flow Rate : 28 - 30 gpm
Gasket I.D. (Inches) : 3.587"
Gasket I.D. (mm) : 91 mm
Media Type : Paper
Oil Filter Gasket O.D. (Inches) : 3.967"
Oil Filter Gasket O.D. (mm) : 101 mm
Oil Filter Gasket Thickness (Inches) : .34"
Oil Filter Gasket Thickness (mm) : 8 mm
Oil Filter Height (Inches) : 8.093"
Oil Filter Height (mm) : 205 mm
Oil Filter O.D. (Inches) : 4.282"
Oil Filter O.D. (mm) : 109 mm
Oil Filter Style : Spin-On Lube Filter
Oil Filter Thread Size (inches) : 1 1/2-16
Napa Gold 1742 (6.9 filter)
Quote from Napa on the Napa Gold 1742
"NAPA Gold Oil Filters Hold 45% More Dirt + Last 30% Longer Than Other Leading Competitive Brands.; 25 Micron"
Flow Rate : 28 - 30 gpm
Gasket I.D. (Inches) : 3.587"
Gasket I.D. (mm) : 91 mm
Media Type : Paper
Oil Filter Gasket O.D. (Inches) : 3.967"
Oil Filter Gasket O.D. (mm) : 101 mm
Oil Filter Gasket Thickness (Inches) : .34"
Oil Filter Gasket Thickness (mm) : 8 mm
Oil Filter Height (Inches) : 5.968"
Oil Filter Height (mm) : 151 mm
Oil Filter O.D. (Inches) : 4.282"
Oil Filter O.D. (mm) : 109 mm
Oil Filter Style : Spin-On Lube Filter
Oil Filter Thread Size (inches) : 1 1/2-16
The difference in physical size is due to the micron rating, the smaller micron rating of the 1734 needs a larger surface area to flow the same volume as the 1742.

I like Amsoil, I use Amsoil for specific applications, however it is my opinion that the factory filtering system does it's job effectively when properly maintained and there is no need for an expensive external system.

I like Amsoil and use it in all my vehicles. I'm planning to switching my Diesel over. In discussing it with my Amsoil dealer, he told me that he could sell me one of those bypass filter kits, but, he wouldn't recommend it, unless I'm putting lots and lots and lots of miles on it. I'm not. I use it for hauling for personal usage. Not for professional. I'd doubt I'd put 7500 on it per year. If it were based purely on mileage, I'd still do it. But, you're supposed to change it annually, no matter how many miles you run. It'd be tough to justify that kind of cost, in my case. Still, I like and trust their synthetic oil and plan to use it.

iv been using the motorcraft filter too(1995 psd).

i'll be switching to this soon when i go with synthetic oil:

Mobil 1 M1-601 oil filter (also the larger psd filter.)
they have these at autozone.

specs:
Mobil 1 Extended Performance Oil Filters

im planning 10k mile oil & filter changes.
likely this is to often,so i'll do a couple oil tests and see if 15 to 20k is cool.

i would agree with this too.
i like a test towcat did with one of his rigs.check it out:

My F350 will pull hard all the way to 3800rpm but there's nothing normal about the motor or the surrounding plumbing. before IC, the power would fade out at 3k rpm, not so after IC install.
you results may vary. but one thing is consistent, I work my trucks hard within the factory limits and have gotten good service out of my trucks.
one motor was condemned at 400k on the odo and did not recieve any oil changes just to see how far before it dies. it finally died at 650k on the odo.

no oil changes, it only got new oil when needed. As far as the seaping gaskets, it got Bar's leak. One bottle every two months. the headgaskets was the motor's eventual demise. One morning, it hydrolocked. 650k on the ODO.

Last oil change I decided to go with the Bosch PSD filter for a change. I figured what the hell, it was only $3 more than the regular Motorcraft filter, and it's supposed to have some fancy synthetic filter media.
