Door locks

1948 F5. The passenger's door has a lock in it. The driver's does not. Both doors appear original based upon original paint color and history of truck.

Is this common, or was it likely one was added, or the door(s) are not original?

Can one be installed on a non-lock door?

Because you don’t have 25 posts you cannot use the search feature (don’t ask me why). If you go to Google put in “door lock” and this site as where to search, you will get what you need.

No door lock on driver's side door. It became an option in 1951. You can add a door lock to your existing door, but you'll need to find the latch mechanism. That's hard to do as they don't come up for sale that often. Last one that came up on eBay sold for over $100.

Also, if you notice, most cars of the same era didn't have door locks on left door. That is because it wasn't safe for the driver, or passengers, to exit on the left side and into the street. The driver would lock the door from the inside and slide out on the right side onto the curb.
