I know its a book but man am i having problems trying to figure this out!! i decided to post over here also being its more than likely electrical. Please help i need this truck for moving in 3 weeks!!!
I read one of the threads. I believe your problem may be checking for power at the pumps, by unplugging the pumps and then checking for power. Am I right? If you want to check power to the pumps, you need to leave them plugged in, to keep the circuit loaded down. If you don't load down the circuit with the pump, you can get a 12v reading that does not mean anything. This happens to people all the time when checking lighting circuits also.

No the pumps are plugged in.Thats whats so strange about this problem. When i switch the tank selector switch from front to back and im under the truck with a test light and multimeter testing the (power - in) wires to the intank pumps, i have someone turn the key to the on position and i get a 12v reading for 2-3 secs. The low pressure intank pumps DONT run but im getting power to them. I dont know maybe both BRAND NEW pumps went south at the same time. The Hipressure frame mounted pump does run for 2-3 secs and has 12v of power to it. Like i stated in an earlier post the only thing the two intank low pressure pumps have in common is a ground. So i hooked up ground to both intank pump ground wires from the negative of the battery. You cant get better ground than that!! and they still didnt run. Im gonna take the bed of the truck off next week and pull those POS intank AIRTEX pumps and put 12v to them from my jumpbox and see if hey work. Ill bet ya dollars to donuts they are broken. Keep those ideas coming as i just hate to pull the bed off this truck again.
The plug that plugs on to the top of the tank can give problems also. Make sure this plug has a good connection there,
Hi Bill i will do on the plug. Im going to buy new connectors. Can you believe the problems this truck has givin me?? it has to be either the connections or the pumps
Just to let everyone know i finally figured the problem out!!!! It was the power wire from the fuel pump relay to the inertia switch to the fuel pump selector switch and the main hi pressure fuel pump on the frame rail. ford had wrapped that wire up and around the dash frame where its sharp and it was shorting randomly
I rewired that section and all is well in NJ tonite
