x3 or 4 on the MBRP. I've had mine on for five years or so, and had no problems. I only get a little drone towing - pushing it hard - and only if the back is empty and I have all the seats down or out.
I had a BTM for awhile, and it fluttered a little too much for my taste. When one of its mount welds cracked, I got the MBRP. The install was easy, as I recall, but a 4" downpipe is a *really* tight fit. It's no more 1/16" from the manifold at one point.
This seems like a good product for the price. Plus it is from the Turbo back and really isn't killing me on price.
I thought I would pass it along to anyone else that might want to look.
Its a good price, but it is carbon steel with a 'coating' on it. Sure its better than the crap Midas sells (designed to fail before 'lifetime' muffler does...), but its still gonna RUST alot faster than stock in all but the least harsh environments. I'd prefer stock SS and a less restrictive, 'disposable' muffler myself. That extra couple hundred $$ could be an AIS intake or a valve body upgrade - something that CAN make a difference. I have yet to be convinced 4" is a significant improvement over 3.5" with a 'straight thru' muffler on a relatively stock truck - and I've tried to justify it for almost 7yrs and 200k miles since I straight piped stock exhaust on F350... I'd prolly be replacing the 'aluminized' stuff by now - not really 'saving' much.
I'm not towing with my Excursion, but I can have PLENTY of fun with Jody's 100hp tune before EGT's are a problem - WITH A STOCK MUFFLER. And I live in the mountains (not high altitude - thats a different animal!). In fact, ex-wife preferred 100hp to 80econo and thats where I found F5 every time I drove it... You don't HAVE to upgrade intake/exhaust in order to increase power!!
Stock is 3.5"
I have a diamond eye 4" turbo back which has a straight thru muffler. No drone to speak of. You can't fit anything bigger on a ex. Unless you are going to spend alot of money on a ss, don't bother. My understanding is the cheaper ss won't do any better than the aluminized. I picked diamond eye for the price and installed it myself. It fit well and I like it. Just my .02
I am going to buy the diamond eye today. It seems that maybe the biggest restriction is on the downpipe and the muffler. Either way, if you are going to replace just those 2 pieces with something different, you might as well just get a whole new system in my opinion. (it is just an opinion)
We shall see. Hopefully you can hear the turbo more as it is kinda cool!
I have been thinking about a Walker BTM for mine as well, but wanted to know how it sounded when you drop out of OD on the highway - is it obnoxious, or just louder? My F150 had a Flowmaster on it, sounded great at idle and accelerating though the gears, but if you were on the highway and cresting a hill that it dropped out of OD the sound was horrible - so that is what I am trying to avoid. louder is understandable - just don't want it to sound like a honda with a coffee-can muffler.
Cool, thanks - so it sounds the same when you punch it as when it downshifts?
was different on the F150, maybe just the foot in it vs the rpm jump. anyway, sounded good.
