hello... newbie with a question.

I need a new cat/ down pipe for an 89 single cab short bed with a 5.0 5 speed. Any suggestions. There are shortys on it and would like to run a cat back system but not sure because mine has individual pipes off each header that looks stock and is cracked. Any help would be nice.thanks

if you can get away with out cats, i myself would run straight pipe from the headers right to the mufflers and then tailpipe to wherever

+1 on that. Ditch the cats if you can.

I vote for keeping the catalytic converter. Catco and Magnaflow both make very good single converter replacement y-pipes that will connect to the stock exhaust. A good high flow converter will not restrict any flow. No reason to follow the mindset of the past. Catalytic converters are not the root of automotive evil. Some of the other items such as air injection is problematic and were designed to overcome the early design deficiencies of said converters. A modern 3-way converter can be reasonably priced and work very well with stock or mild modifications.

I can get away with no cats here in Michigan but would like to put one back on. The truck is mainly a daily driver and will only have a couple mods. Thanks guys for the suggestions.
