On my 2001 F-350 my Auto Meter gauge disagrees with my trucks sensors (with a computer plugged in reading the stats) by about 2 psi, the really strange thing to me is that at an idle the truck reads -2 psi. Why would it be negative or is the sensor bad? would that affect the way the engine runs because it is actual getting more air then it thinks?
Boost is calculated by the computer by subtracting the barometer sensor value from the MAP sensor value. The MAP sensor is giving absolute pressure, so with the engine off it would be reading about 14.7 PSI at sea level. The barometer sensor should read the same.
The higher you elevation above sea level the lower those values would be.
