Curious as to what a 5.4 can tow, weight wise. Please give me some input. I have a 27 ft travel trailer--(4900lbs dry) Or does anyone know where I can get the towing specigications?
Don't mean to be a pest, but I figured there will be a difference in pulling capabilities between an Expidition and an F250, if I am wrong then just say so. I am just trying to make am educated decision. And I fugued this is the place to get the answers.
Click on specifications link and look for the type of vehicle you'd like to buy. The towing capacity for a 5.4 will vary depending on the truck it's in, the rear end, the tire size, etc. But, the specifications section of this site does a good job of explaining all of that for each vehicle.
I tow a 27' travel trailer, with my '97 Expy 4x4, 5.4L, XLT. 17" optional wheels, air suspension. Total loaded trailer weight for a two week vacation is 5,020 lbs. About 500 lbs more in the Expy. I've towed it up many steep passes in CO,and other western states, up to 11, 500 ft. I'm satisfied it handles well, but I wouldn't choose to handle anything much heavier. As it is, it's no overdrive allowed, any time, and first gear on the steepest, highest passes like Wolf Creek, Cottonwood, Red Mountain, etc. I get 8-9 miles per gallon regardless of terrain or wind conditions.
Hope this helps.
