Does anyone know the reason the later 99's and on had a foil like insulator covering on the intercooler tube on left side? What is it made of and where can you get it? Ford claims you must buy entire tube assembly to get it. Go figure!!!
As far as I am aware , this insulation is their to keep the underhood heat from getting into the air inside the pipe, basically to keep it as cool as possibile. Same reason why most racecar turbo systems are wrapped with a fiberglass material , to keep the heat out , so the air intake temp stays cool..Cooler air makes more power than hot air..
You can buy similar insulation as your truck has on it from many places, likes Jegs or summit mailorder. Just look under heat insulation/ turbo wrap. They also sell these nifty metal zip ties to use instead of the common plastic ones , so you wont have a chance of them melting under extreme heat....
