08 6.4 DPF needs replaced per dealer
At 115,000 had to replace turbo $5,000 after dealer and Ford contributed. Now at 117,000 miles DPF needs replacing per dealer @ $2,200 plus tax. Regen without dash stating so. Excessive blue smoke when regen and will do under 30 MPH. Dealer says I need new DPF. My questions to all is:
How long do DPF last?
Can clean DPF anyway?
DPF delete who in Baltimore would do this?
Is the DPF delete the way to go?
How much should I pay to do this?

Now the service manager just returned our call. He has informed us that he wants someone else to look at it to get a second opinion. We will see. Pretty crazy to first tell me that I need a $2,200 part and then now wants someone else to look at it. The company that I work for buys a lot of cars from this dealer. I will keep everyone posted. Thank you.

I put 153,700 miles on a 6.4 and never had any DPF issues. I don't think Ford or hardly anyone else really knows the life expectancy of those things. It will become more common to see issues once the 6.4 starts seeing service beyond 150K miles and a few years. In this sense, everyone with a diesel that has a DPF is really a test driver. You may be very early in the data collection pool in this regard.

an answer to the mess
Apparently when my turbo went up it leaked oil into the DPF. It will take time to burn off during the regen process. It is going thru the regen process without the dash message coming on. Mechanic informed me that was impossible. He kept truck for 4 days taking it home with a scanner attached to the vehicle. It did go thru regen without message on dash. He ws wrong. He had never seen that.
So bottom line is that i am dealing with the regen coming on without notification and more blue smoke than normal unti all is burned off. No need for new DPF.
Thanks to everyone who responded.
