I just purchased a 2007 F150 4.6l. The dealer has no idea how long it's been for an oil change. I have been researching syn oils and high quality filters. I like to check for part numbers before I go to the autoparts store to insure I get the correct parts. I keep getting asked if I have 22mm or 3/4" threads. I have no idea. Can some one please tell me. I would ASSume it is 22mm being a newer vehicle.
Ok I purchased a MC oil filter and it is totally different the the filter on it. The one on the truck now is a Performax PO-173. This filter is much smaller in diameter and little longer than the MC filter.
SIMPLY check your owners manual. It will clearly state the correct Motorcraft oil filter you should use, depending what engine your vehicle has. Use the correct oil filter Ford recommends, not what some yahoo installed on your truck...of all the many years I've bought oil filters, not one place ever asked me what size threads I have. You gotta be kidding? Although, even as a teenager with my first car, I knew what filter to use from memory. This is not rocket science, here.
Checking the owners manual is the last thing most people do. That would be way too easy. There is a wealth of great info in owners manuals. I bought a 98 Jeep GC 5.9 Limited used last year. It diodn't have an owners manual so I went online & found one & bought it. It has saved me valuable time & effort.
I did check the owners manual and it says use the FL-820-S.
I think what was confusing me was the autoparts websites list both filters for the Windsor and the Romeo motors. I had know idea there were 2 different motors like that.
Apparently this is rocket science - Bought a Fram PH8A and a PH2 Both can be searched and listed to fit your vehicle on Frams website or parts store. One is listed with a tiny note that says its a 22mm thread size while the other is 3/4. Found out while trying to thread on the 22mm onto the 3/4 - I had both on hand while for a 1997 explorer and the 2000. Manual and various websites leave you guessing why this is so. I think that's why you are getting asked

Welcome to FTE
You've revived a 14-year-old open ended thread, so not likely the OP will answer. Best if we refer to our owner manual for the specified OEM oil filter, as it can vary by body model, engine choice, type drive line, suspension, due to clearance problems various options can cause. Of course, we're on our own if we choose after-market parts.
