There is another u-joint and a splined slip joint inside the boot. You can remove the boot clamp, mark the axle shaft so you can slide it in as it came out and pull the outer axle shaft out from the slip joint.
It is unlikely that the u-joint inside the boot will need replaced but check it just to be sure.
