External trans filter

I have a 2006 250 diesel with automatic. I changed the external trans filter this weekend and it is a little different than what came out. It is a pleated style and the openings in the filter end is very small. Instructions said it would be different that what was removed. Did ford change them from the tp looking filter to a pleated style? This was not a ford filter that I installed. Thanks.

The factory Motorcraft filter is the "toilet paper" type filter. Go to dieselfilters.com and take a look. That's where I get all my filters for my 06 Powerstroke.
