i have always cleaned my filter with k&n's cleaner but would liike to know if it is ok to use something else.
one person told me they always clean their's with gas, but that k&n was for his dirt bike
I have a K&N filter charger on my 1st Gen. Lightning and I had one on a 83 GoldWing.
The K&N cleaner is pretty expensive for what you get.
I soak mine in hot water with Dawn dish detergent for about 2 hours (enough time to do some of the regular maintenance).
Swish it around a few times. Rinse it out from the inside then the outside under faucet (no extreme force), let it air dry (faster in the sun). Re-oil with K&N spray filter oil as per instructions. By the time it's done, I'm done tinkerin'.
You might try to get the spray at a motorcycle parts dealer.
I clean mine every other oil change (lotsa dirt blows around here).
