Have a Blinker Issue

Have a 2000 Excursion Limited with roughly 154,000+ miles. Have had intermitten problems with the blinkers. They blink and then all of a sudden they quit the lights themselves are still on (on the outside) just not blinking. Seems to happen when its damp or wet out. Probably should be obvious but as a woman don't know everything about this truck yet after having it for 8 years.

Cuinak - Kudos to the actuator replacement step by step. Did that myself and saved so much money! Think I had a edge above the guys... have smaller hands and arms. Not an easy job but love bragging about it.

Any help or a starting point would be appreciated.

Most turn signal faults that I have encountered have been because of a bulb. Lots of times it was because someone installed the wrong bulbs. Other times it was things like corroded bulb sockets, burnt out bulbs, shorting out bulbs or sockets (common in wet conditions like you describe) or broken/cut/contacting wires near the socket.

However if you are having problems with blinkers staying on with both sides I would look into the flasher first. If it is only one side doing it check the bulbs.

Thanks for that info..... now that you say that had a license plate light that got a little corroded. Electrical stinks on these things. How about elelctric brakes. Would that have an affect on it? Never had a problem with them but also haven't hauled a trailer like you have for about 5 years.

As you know in WI you need to have everything in working order so you don't get pulled over for random items that aren't working.

FYI.... see your trailer in the picture and so miss mine!

Thanks!

The electric brakes shouldn't do it.

Do both sides stay on if you flip the turn signal side to side when this happens? Or does just one side do it? Do all of the turn signal lights on the outside light up? Turn on your hazard flashers and walk around and check them out.

I know all to well about being pulled over in this state for stupid stuff!

Did you see the boat behind the TT in the pic?

Did not see the boat.... yikes... is that really legal? Anyway the blinkers are so random but will try tomorrow, the hazard thing I have not tried and again will try tomorrow. Again have had this truck for 8 years and have learned so much about it just don't get this issue with it. Everyone has asked why I haven't sold it... couldn't cuz had a 26 ft Dutchmen that I had to haul around for awhile until I sold it (the trailer)... then it wasn't the right time to sell it because of the gas prices(V10 gas). It is paid for and I just do the maintenance on it, way cheaper than a monthly vehicle payment. Pretty **** about what doesn't sound right and what isn't right. Quite frankly, I'm safe in it and the gas mileage really isn't as bad as some think vs. some of the new trucks they don't get much better than what I get. Sorry babbling... but do appreciate any help. Like I said I do alot myself if I can. A friend at work told me about this site and it has been a God send!
