Next Project - Rearend
Well, this past week I got the brakes done and the timing adjusted on my new-to-me 1966. That was a major deal for someone who hasn't ever done much more than change oil, etc. Now I just need to get the rust off the drums and hit 'em with a little paint. 
Next up is trying to clean up the rear end and find and fix a leak. Are there any hornet's nests I might run into on this? Or anything I need to be on the look out for to keep from causing a bigger problem?

not really, depends on where the leak is. plug, third member gasket, or axle.you didn't mention what size it is, half ton or three quarter ton. two different ***** of wax all together. half ton pickup. axle. ify ou already have it apart and this is where the leak is located take the four bolts out that hold the plate to the rearend. this will allow you to pull the axle. seal is right behind the bearing inside rearend housing. if it's the gasket on the main rearend you'll need to pull both axles , drop the driveline, and remove all the bolts around the third member.this piece will come off a bit hard as there are brass washers around the bolt studs. you will need a hammer and a sharp chisel or screwdriver to get things moveing.about a four hour plus job. depends on how handy you are. good luck.

Sorry, Flyn. It's a 1/2 ton. As for the leak, all of the above. Not sure about the axle. I'm pretty sure it's coming from the third member. And maybe the plug, too but I won't know until I get it all cleaned up. After seeing some of the things done to the truck in the past, most of this may just be from the last time they put some fluid in the rear end and they let it drip all over the place. I've found a few drops on the driveway though so it's obviously coming from somewhere back there. Thanks a bunch for the help.
