i have a 76 high boy 250.
i have some 15inch tires. the rims i have wont fit over the disc brakes and i wont grind on my calipers.
does anybody know what back spacing i need to avoid any interference?
My truck has rims with 4.5 inch backspacing and they just make it. my truck is also a 150 though so you might need a lil less but i hope this helps. Good luck!
yes it has 16.5 eight bolts but i got a pair of 15" tires cheap with eight bolt rims but they hit on the caliper. i want to know what back spacing i need
thanks for the help
...go with a set of 8-lug 16 in rims...plenty of options available, no compromise and ya dont have to worry about back spaceing or grinding on the calipers...should be able to find a set at the junkyards fairly cheap too...
well I'm going to pee you all off!!! yep torque mike w and 79_250RangerLariat 15's will fit!!!!!!!! look at my Gallery they are
35 12.50 15 on that baby but here is the trick for you high rider76
you need a 1 off backspacing to clear the calipers mine that are pictured are 2 off with a 1/2 spacer and I still had to grind on the calipers I lifted this truck 3 years ago and no problems with it....

please take a look at my Gallery!!!
460429-freak you might want to read a little closer before you start throwing names in there. I said:
"Don't think anything bigger than a 1/2 ton ever came stock with 15's and a 5 bolt rim.."
Which means I don't think FORD ever put 15" rims on a truck BIGGER than a 1/2 ton, which comes with 5 bolt rims. I never said they would not fit.
ooops read it to quick, hey have you ever seen a 16.5 5 bolt for wheel I got one why somebody wanted a 16.5 on a 1/2 ton I never know!!!
I opted for the 15's for the cost of tire and cause the 16.5 have no inner bead I never had good luck with 16.5 I either convert them trucl to 15 or 16 white spokes. hey 79_250RangerLariat did you take a look at my gallery????
33 no mods 35's (depending on how much the springs have lost there arch) no mods bigger than 35 I think you have to trim the fenders on tight turn they rub also depends on the type of tire.
I had a set of 36 swampers on my 76 highboy they rubbed every once in a while they was 16.5 tires though on 12 inch wheels
460429: you really confused me there, I'm not sure I made any sense outta what you said? Maybe I'm just slow this morning.
highrider: I'm running 15s on my 78 F250 D60, they have 2.5" backspacing & just barely clear the caliper with no grinding. I don't know if there's any difference on the older trucks, but I'd assume it would work. Something to keep in mind regarding this setup is it will make your truck really wide. I didn't see you say what size tires you have, but I'd reccomend running the narrowest wheel you can get away with. Also keep in mind, the normal "what size tires will fit" questions go out the window with this extreme backspacing. The tire swings in a really wide arc, & will contact the sheetmetal alot more than if the wheel was spaced in like it normally is.
