I have an '85 B2 with the 2.8 engine and AT that I've owned for a short time. After buying it....I noticed that the temperature guage stayed in the very high normal range consistently....and it reached this temperature in a short period of driving time. I replaced the Ford 192 degree thermostat with another 192, and I also changed the temperature sending unit. There was no change. I then replaced the 192 with a 180. Now the temperature runs in the very low normal range.....within the normal range but barely.....And it takes twice as long or longer to reach normal than it did with the 192.
My concern with the 192 was that the engine might run hot enough to crack the heads. Now....My concern with the l80 is that the thermostat may not be allowing the engine to run efficiently. It seems to run smoothly, and I don't detect any symptoms of running rich and I have plenty of heat...it just takes
longer for the engine to warm up.
Any thoughts on the pros and cons of the 180 thermostat would be appreciated.
